Tottenham Hotspur signed Ashley Phillips from Blackburn Rovers earlier this summer.

The 18-year-old central defender completed a £2 million move to the north London club and a report from Sky Sports claims that the young defender has impressed the Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou so far.

It appears that the Australian manager is not willing to give him first-team opportunities and he will be a permanent member of the senior squad.

The 6ft 4in defender is highly rated in England and he has a big future ahead of him.

Phillips could prove to be a quality long-term signing for Tottenham if he manages to continue his development and fulfil his potential.

Postecoglou has done well to nurture talented young players throughout his managerial career and he showed that during his time at Celtic.

He could get the best out of the 18-year-old and help him establish himself as a quality Premier League defender.

Spurs needed to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer after conceding 63 goals in the league last year. They have signed Ashley Phillips and Micky van de Ven so far.

Van de Ven has already impressed with his performances in the Premier League and Phillips will look to make his mark in the top flight now.

The 18-year-old has the attributes to develop into a key player for Tottenham and regular football will only aid his development. The recent update from Sky Sports will come as a major boost for the young defender and he will hope to impress the manager when he gets an opportunity to play in the Premier League.
