Manchester United’s first-team picture between the posts continues to invite discussion as the club balances immediate demands with long-term planning at Old Trafford.
Senne Lammens remains the clear number one since his arrival from Royal Antwerp.
Behind the scenes, United’s recruitment department has been placing increased emphasis on building from within rather than relying solely on expensive external solutions.
The pathway from the academy to the senior squad has been a recurring theme under the current regime, particularly in key positions such as goalkeeper.
While attention naturally gravitates towards the first team, much of the real groundwork is being laid quietly at Carrington.
That longer-term strategy has now taken another step forward.
Manchester United have completed the signing of 19-year-old goalkeeper Solomon Honor from Blackburn Rovers, as reported by Red Youth United via X.
The teenager will initially link up with United’s U21 squad, where he is expected to compete for minutes in Premier League 2 and domestic cup competitions as he settles into his new surroundings.
Solomon Honor is regarded as a modern-style goalkeeper who is comfortable with the ball at his feet, a trait that has become increasingly important across all levels of the club.
Standing at around 1.87 metres, he offers a strong physical presence while also being known for sharp reflexes and confident shot-stopping, particularly in one-on-one situations.
Those qualities were honed during his time in the Blackburn academy, where he progressed through their youth setup after joining from Manchester City’s academy system earlier in his development.
Although he did not make a senior appearance for Blackburn, Honor gained valuable experience in men’s football during loan spells away from Ewood Park, including time in non-league football where the physicality and unpredictability of the game offered a steep learning curve.
Those spells were seen as crucial in accelerating his maturity, decision-making and command of his area, aspects United’s coaching staff are believed to value highly.
His move to Old Trafford fits a familiar pattern for United, who have increasingly targeted young players with strong foundational training and room to grow rather than finished products.
Within the U21 setup, Honor will be working closely with specialist goalkeeping coaches, with a clear focus on refining his distribution, positioning and communication, all essential components if he is to push further up the ladder.
