Transfer expert David Ornstein of The Athletic admits to there being some noise around the future of Nicolas Jackson this summer.
Chelsea beat Benfica in the first set of knockout rounds in the Club World Cup on Saturday night, but it was far from easy and also, very far from drama!
Enzo Maresca labelled it a joke that the game got suspended for two hours due to sever weather conditions and slammed the tournament location as a result, and he really does have a point here.
And then came a flurry of late goal with Benfica equalising deep into stoppage time through a penalty to send it into extra time. Chelsea then bagged a bunch of goals to go on and win the game before it got to penalties!
It looks like this summer, Chelsea have a lot of players on the transfer list but then after that there is another group of players who are not for sale as such, but are also not untouchable.
This means that if Chelsea get an offer for such a player that they deem a decent one, then they will accept it and sell the player. I reckon you can put both Jackson and Noni Madueke in that category, personally.
David Ornstien said this week:
“There is clearly some noise around the Nicolas Jackson situation. But I repeat, it’s not something I know that Chelsea are actively trying to bring about.
“I think they’ve got huge respect for Nicolas Jackson, and what has he achieved so far, and the potential that he has for growth. I just know that he’s the type of player and profile the number of clubs like. I’ve spoken to them. And whenever you mentioned Jackson, they say, he could become really, really good, and Chelsea will be aware of that themselves.”
