Tottenham youngster Alejo Veliz wanted by former employers Rosario Central

A squad overhaul appears on the cards for Tottenham Hotspur after a disastrous domestic campaign saw them finish 17th in the Premier League table.

The Europa League success was a massive achievement from Ange Postecoglou and his boys, but it cannot hide the problems the team regularly faced in the Premier League. They suffered 22 league defeats, which is simply unacceptable for a club of Spurs’ prestige and standards.

A decision on Ange Postecoglou’s future has to be made sooner rather than later. Without or without the Australian at the helm, the club has to get rid of deadwood this summer before bringing in new players. And one player who could be offloaded is Alejo Veliz.

Alejo Veliz arrived from Rosario Central in August 2023 with plenty of promise, but he failed to make an impression at Hotspur Way. The striker was farmed out on loan to Sevilla in January 2024, where he could muster only six La Liga appearances. He returned to North London in the summer and once again left for Spain to sign for Espanyol for the 2024/25 season.

The Argentinean has not been a regular starter for the Espanyol side. He made 27 La Liga appearances, with only 10 starts and one goal to his name. His final appearance for Espanyol came off the bench as he helped his side avoid relegation with a 2-0 win against Las Palmas on the last day of the season.

After failing to cut it out at Tottenham or on loan, Alejo Veliz looks destined for a future away from North London. Now, according to reliable Argentinean journalist Esteban Edul on X, Rosaria Central are plotting to re-sign Veliz. They will start working on a deal to sign him after securing the sensational return of Angel di Maria. He is the No.9 Rosaria are actually “dreaming of”.

Espanyol are not interested in signing the Godeken-born talent permanently from Spurs after his underwhelming displays. He only managed four goals across all competitions for the Catalan side. Meanwhile, Tottenham are willing to listen to transfer offers for the 21-year-old this summer.

An injury crisis last season saw Ange give more youngsters chances to shine, including Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray. Despite youth making a name, Veliz is not expected to be given chances in the Spurs first team. The South American must be sold, having failed to impress the coaches at the club or out on loan.
