Italy capped off their United States tour with a commanding 2-0 victory against CONMEBOL giants Ecuador in Harrison, New Jersey. Speaking to the press in the post-game interview, Luciano Spalletti admitted most of the squad that traveled across the ocean will appear at Euro 2024.

Goals from Lorenzo Pellegrini and Nicolo Barella on either side of halftime inspired Italy to a landslide victory against Ecuador, only a few days after a 2-1 triumph against Venezuela. A brace of wins against South American sides has been a perfect start to Gli Azzurri’s preparations for the upcoming tournament.

Spalletti praised his team’s effort at the Red Bull Arena, insisting a large chunk of his March call-up will represent Italy in Germany this summer.

Sometimes, when I hear the presentation of the matches where Italy goes to play, it seems to be taken for granted that Italy wins quietly, but it is not so. We come back with the knowledge that many of these players will be part of the final call-up,” the ex-Napoli boss said, as quoted by TMW.

Sunday’s win extended the Italians’ unbeaten run to four matches, setting them up nicely for the final prep games against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Turkey. But as admitted by Spalletti, Italy can’t take anything for granted, especially if they’re to become the only side alongside Spain to defend their European Championship title.

But it seems that the atmosphere within the Italy camp is healthy, as one could notice from Pellegrini’s post-match talk.
