AC Milan and Inter are both looking to sign a new striker and there could well be a mercato derby between the two sides over the same target, a report claims.

Sportitalia report that both Milanese clubs are keeping their eye on Borja Mayoral, formerly Real Madrid and Roma. The Spanish striker is now playing for Getafe and he has found a new lease of life.

Mayoral has already scored 12 goals in this first part of the season in LaLiga and many clubs have their eyes on him. Among these are Milan and Inter, and the report mentions that the next few weeks will be ‘decisive’ in his future.

Born in Parla in the Community of Madrid, Mayoral joined Real Madrid’s youth setup in 2007 and he made his way up the ranks there, jumping into the first team in 2015 after impressing in the UEFA Youth League.

Since then the 26-year-old has struggled to really establish himself anywhere. Loan spells at Wolfsburg, Levante, Roma and now Getafe followed. As mentioned, his 12 league goals in 18 games this season so far suggest that he is firmly back in the groove.

Milan must of course make a decision on Luka Jovic and Olivier Giroud beyond this season, with both currently under expiring contracts.
