Tottenham Hotspur’s wait for a first Premier League victory of 2026 goes on. In interim boss Igor Tudor’s second game in charge on Sunday, Spurs were beaten 2-1 by Fulham in a London derby.
The Lilywhites were second best in every department for the majority of the encounter against Fulham. Richarlison came off the bench and scored in the 66th minute, but it turned out to be a mere consolation. It was Tottenham’s fourth straight Premier League defeat, meaning they’ve picked up just four points from ten league outings this year. The result left Spurs 16th with 29 points, just four clear of the relegation zone with 10 games remaining.
Igor Tudor has done little to improve the North London club’s fortunes since he replaced Thomas Frank at the helm last month. Having built a reputation as a firefighter in Serie A, the key decision-makers at Spurs felt he is the right man to come in and save the club from sinking.
Spurs were woeful once again on Sunday afternoon, leaving them in real danger of dropping into the Championship. So far, Tudor has failed to weave his magic and stabilise the situation. Instead, he has been critical of the squad he has inherited from Thomas Frank, expressing that his Tottenham side are not physically up to the mark at the moment to compete.
The Last Word on Spurs podcast owner Ricky Sacks has voiced his concerns over Tudor. Sacks has warned the interim boss that he could be sacked by the board after less than three weeks if he fails to quickly improve the results.
“Tudor’s come into a battle where honestly, at the moment, I’m really unsure whether we’ve made the right decision,” Ricky Sacks said on talkSPORT Breakfast.
“He was a firefighter, but he’s walked into Tottenham… I think he doesn’t realise until he’s got in there the actual mess the club is in.
“It wouldn’t surprise me at all if another couple of defeats, they may look to change him. I’m worried that in his first two games, he’s gone in and absolutely buried them.
“Don’t get me wrong, they probably deserve to be buried. But how is that productive in terms of trying to get results out of this group when you’re already decimated by injuries, and you’ve only got 12, 13 players fit to work with?”
Even though Opta Supercomputer’s prediction has given Spurs a 95.5% chance of survival after the Fulham defeat, owing to both relegation rivals Nottingham Forest and West Ham United losing too at the weekend, it cannot be denied that Tudor’s side are in deep, deep trouble at the moment. The team has not improved a bit despite the change in management, and the fans haven’t managed to enjoy a ‘new manager bounce’.
With just 10 league games left, the margin of error is quickly shrinking at White Hart Lane. Tudor has to find a way to get the club out of the mess, or he may end up paying the price sooner rather than later.
