Ismaila Soro looks set to be the next fringe player heading for the exit door at Celtic Park this month with reports overnight linking the £2m signing from Israeli club Bnei Yehuda with a move to the MLS with Scottish Sun reporting that New York Red Bulls are one of several American clubs interested in the 23 year old Celtic midfielder.

Yesterday both Ewan Henderson and Liam Shaw went out on loan deals to the end of the season to Hibs and Motherwell respectively. For Henderson it’s the end of the road for his time as a Celtic player as a permanent deal with Hibs has already been arranged for the summer. The former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Shaw will be back at Celtic in the summer and will be looking to get much needed game-time during his spell at Fir Park.

Soro isn’t short of interest with several sides in Israel looking at him as an ideal option but it’s probably more likely that Soro is going to follow former Celts Patryk Klimala and Lewis Morgan in playing in the MLS.

Soro hasn’t featured much under Ange Postecoglou in his preferred number 6 role which has principally been occupied by the Celtic captain Callum McGregor, with both Nir Bitton and James McCarthy also ahead of the Ivorian. And with Yosuke Ideguchi signing for the club, Soro would be more than likely limited to the fringes of the Celtic side should he stay on.

Ange Postecoglou is re-shaping his squad this month having had six months to assess the players he inherited and the dozen signed in the summer window. And he’s anxious to reduce the size of the squad by moving on fringe players no longer in his plans. That’s a category Soro falls into with a move to The States probably the most likely outcome.
