‘Step By Step’: Fabrizio Romano Reveals Liverpool’s Stance On Signing 21 G/A Eredivisie Star

Liverpool suffered a bitter elimination from the FA Cup before the international window with a defeat to Manchester United, which could’ve hinted at their need to improve the depth of their frontline. This has caused them to start being linked to PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko once again.

Liverpool’s Links To Johan Bakayoko Clarified

Are Liverpool Really Interested In Bakayoko Signing?

Fabrizio Romano has acknowledged the Reds’ links to the 20-year-old winger over recent days. However, he insists that there is nothing concrete happening between the Premier League club and the Belgian youngster’s representatives and that the player himself is 100% focused on finishing the 2023/24 season strongly with PSV.

The journalist further states that many clubs have been scouting Bakayoko over the course of this campaign and that scouts from major English clubs have also followed his performances. However, it’s added that the 20-year-old is going to assess his options at the end of the season and decide if he’s ready for the transfer.

Bakayoko has been in extremely impressive form for the Dutch club this term, having scored eight goals and provided 13 assists across all competitions including 14 goal contributions in the Eredivisie. He is a pacy, skilful right-winger with an impressive final product and possesses the right qualities to thrive at a team like Liverpool if they make a move for him.

What Is Liverpool’s Current Priority?

The Reds recently confirmed the return of Michael Edwards to the club, as he’s now the chief of their football operations. They have also announced that ex-Bournemouth man Richard Hughes will become their next sporting director after the end of the 2023/24 season so he will definitely play a part in recruitment for the future.

When it comes to their immediate priorities, Romano wrote on his CaughtOffside column: “Still, for new signings you need the manager, so that will be the next step. Once that’s done, then internal discussions over contracts of top players and then summer transfer targets will be discussed. Step by step.” With Jurgen Klopp set to leave at the end of the campaign, it remains to be seen how quickly they can announce their new manager.
