Former Liverpool  defender Stephen Warnock says the Reds should be in the race to sign West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice this summer.

Jurgen Klopp's side have already brought in Argentina international Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton on a five-year deal with at least two more midfielders expected to arrive at Anfield.

Warnock has urged the Merseysiders to make a move for Rice after the Hammers rejected Arsenal's opening bid thought to be worth £80m plus add-ons.

According to reports, Arsenal's payment would be made in slow installments with a lot of tough contingencies attached to it. West Ham value the England midfielder at £120m but it is understood the club would accept £100m plus a player.

“If Man City get Rice it’s all over again,” Warnock said on Twitter in reference to this season’s Premier League title-race. “I cannot believe LFC are not being mentioned for him.

“A lot of money but he’s gonna be there for 10 years or more! Knows the league, been a standout in the league for past few seasons and is only improving. Imagine him under Klopp!”

As it stands now, Arsenal are favourites to complete this deal as they are still in talks with West Ham and are expected to make a second bid which could be worth more than £100m.

Also, the North Londoners will have to improve the value and structure of their bid significantly if they want to sign the player.

Manchester City are believed to be monitoring the situation and could make a move if Arsenal fail to convince West Ham into selling one of their prized assets.
