Manchester United’s coaching structure has taken another major step forward as the club continues to stabilise under the leadership of Michael Carrick following a dramatic mid-season change at Old Trafford.

Since taking charge after the departure of Ruben Amorim in January, Carrick has overseen a sharp turnaround in form, with the club’s environment shifting from uncertainty to renewed belief across the final months of the campaign.

Now, that progress is being backed further with a key piece of staff continuity confirmed.

Steve Holland signs new contract

Steve Holland has signed a new contract with Manchester United, according to Fabrizio Romano via X, extending his stay as part of Carrick’s backroom team.

Steve Holland initially arrived at Old Trafford as Carrick’s assistant when the former United midfielder was appointed caretaker manager, stepping into a key leadership role during a period of major transition at the club.

Since then, he has worked closely with Carrick alongside a wider coaching group that includes, Jonathan Woodgate, Craig Mawson, Travis Binnion and Jonny Evans, helping to rebuild confidence and structure within the squad.

His influence has been particularly noted in United’s defensive organisation, with performances improving significantly as the team pushed up the Premier League table in the second half of the season.

The new agreement is reported to be a two-year deal with the option of a further year, signalling strong internal belief in the current coaching direction and the stability being built at Carrington.

Carrick himself will remain in charge after INEOS decided he was the leading candidate to continue as head coach on a permanent basis, following his impact since taking over, however, that has not been officially confirmed as of yet.

Steve Holland brings with him one of the most decorated coaching CVs in English football, having spent eight years as assistant to Gareth Southgate with the England national football team.

Before that, he played a major role in a highly successful period at Chelsea, where he helped the club secure seven major domestic and European trophies during his tenure.

His experience at elite level international and club football has been seen as a key asset in United’s ongoing rebuild, particularly as the club looks to return to consistent title challenges.

With Carrick continuing at the helm and Holland now secured long-term, United’s coaching setup appears to be moving towards greater continuity after a turbulent period at Old Trafford.
