Tottenham take on Manchester United in the Europa League final this season in a must-win game for both teams

Tottenham Hotspur have managed to do the unthinkable and have reached the Europa League final this season. The Lilywhites have a great chance of ending their 17-year long wait for a major trophy. If they manage to win the final, it would also be the first time that the North London club will win a European trophy in 41 years.

For many fans, it might potentially be the first time they would watch Spurs lift silverware. Ange Postecoglou has the chance of writing his name in the history books at N17, despite enduring the worst Premier League campaign in Tottenham’s history. The results in Europe and the domestic competitions have been a contrast. The Lilywhites have just not got going in the Premier League.

Spurs take on Manchester United in the Europa League final, a team they have gotten the better off thrice in all competitions this season. The Red Devils are also struggling to get results in the Premier League. They are 16th in the league table, just a place above Spurs. The upcoming game is of paramount importance to both clubs, as winning the competition would guarantee Champions League football for next season.

Stan Collymore believes Tottenham have the edge in the final

The upcoming Europa League final features two struggling teams this season. Both Tottenham and Manchester United have come under immense scrutiny for their performances in the Premier League. However, both clubs have exceeded expectations in Europe and face off each other for the Europa League trophy. It is impossible to predict which way the game would go as both teams have struggled to carve out positive results this season.

But Stan Collymore has tried his best and given his predictions for the upcoming clash between the two strugglers. Writing in his CaughtOffside column, Collymore said,

“In the Europa League, I could very easily see it ending 2-2 or 3-3 after 90 minutes because there is so much uncertainty surrounding how Tottenham and Man United will perform in Bilbao. Both teams have injuries, and because those that are available will be desperate not to sustain knocks in the build-up, they could be caught cold.”

The ex-England international added,

“It could very much be a toss of a coin for who win – but if I stick my neck out, I think Tottenham will take it because they have got the better of Man United in the previous three meetings this season.”

Stan Collymore suggests that the final would end up in a high-scoring draw as Tottenham and United have so much uncertainty surrounding them and the players could be caught cold if they do not perform well. The ex-England international has also predicted that it would be impossible to predict the eventual winner. But Collymore has backed Spurs to win as the Lilywhites have a better head-to-head record against the Red Devils this season.

It was reported earlier that Daniel Levy would sack Ange Postecoglou once the season ended, regardless of the result in the Europa League final. If that is the case, then Big Ange has the chance of ending the season on a high and give the fans a lasting memory before heading for pastures new in the summer.
