Spurs are in the UEFA Champions League next season, but a decision is yet to be made on whether Ange Postecoglou will be in charge

Tottenham closed a season that left more questions than answers. In the Premier League, results were disappointing, as they finished 17th in the table. Despite that, they did manage an unexpected qualification to the next Champions League by winning the Europa League, a feat that offers some relief.

However, uncertainty remains over the future of coach Ange Postecoglou. The board has yet to make a final decision on whether or not he will continue in charge of the team. In the midst of this limbo, rumours have started to gain momentum, with names increasingly circulating in the club’s offices. One of those names is Simone Inzaghi.

Reputed journalist provides update on Simone Inzaghi to Tottenham Hotspur

In recent days, various Italian media outlets have pointed to a possible interest from Tottenham in Simone Inzaghi, the current Inter Milan coach. According to journalist Fabrizio Biasin on Canale 5 via L’Interista, the 49-year-old has not yet agreed a deal with any club.

Biasin explained that there are several teams interested in signing Inzaghi, including some in Europe, and explicitly mentioned Tottenham as one of them. However, he clarified that the coach’s immediate future depends on a pending meeting with the Inter board. The meeting will take place after the Champions League final. Contractual and market issues will be discussed. If both parties can reach an agreement, the idea would be to continue. The journalist’s impression is that Inzaghi would stay at Inter.

“At the moment he has no agreement with any club. Many suitors, not only Saudi Arabia, clubs also in Europe. Names? Among others, there is also Tottenham. After the Champions League final, he will meet with Inter to find an agreement to continue together. To talk about normal things like contract, market and so on. If they find an agreement, we will move forward together. My feeling is that he will remain the coach of Inter.”

Looking at the bigger picture, the possibility of Simone Inzaghi ending up on the Tottenham bench seems, at this stage, limited. There are compelling factors that could keep him in Milan, especially if he wins the Champions League. Such a victory would not only consolidate his position within the club, it would also give him ample grounds to demand contractual improvements.

Inter are in a stable phase, with a squad that responds to his ideas and a board that, at least in sporting terms, has backed his decisions. Exchanging that for a team under reconstruction like Tottenham does not seem a natural step. However, if Postecoglou is sacked – a decision that has not yet been taken – the London club would need a profile with continental experience.

In that context, Inzaghi would fit the bill. He is a coach who tends to use a 3-5-2 system, with an emphasis on quick transitions and the use of wingers. His style is based on defensive organisation, but with a clear offensive projection down the flanks. In Tottenham’s current squad, players like Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie could easily adapt to such a style.

However, there is another, less talked-about view. Media pressure and the impatience of Tottenham’s environment for immediate results may deter coaches coming from more stable backgrounds. For Inzaghi, accepting such a project would mean starting from scratch, adapting to a different football culture and facing high demands from the first minute.

On the other hand, if the club decide to keep Postecoglou, it would be a commitment to continuity, albeit with clear adjustments. The qualification to the Champions League gives him some support. But if the objective is a drastic change of technical direction, then it would make sense to look towards a profile like that of Inzaghi. For now, everything suggests that the decision does not depend solely on Tottenham.
