In what is expected to be a fiercely competitive fixture both on and off the pitch on Sunday, all connected to both clubs will be doing all they can to help their team end up with bragging rights. Sunderland have surprised many this season with impressive displays and results, and despite defeat against Manchester City last weekend, they will go into this game full of confidence. Newcastle have had an indifferent season so far, and there will be some of their fanbase who will be more than a little concerned ahead of this fixture.
Here is our Sunderland predicted lineup as the Wear-Tyne derby returns to the Premier League. Regis Le Bris’ men will not only want bragging rights but also the three points to potentially take them back into the top four of the Premier League.
Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris has tough decisions to make in both personnel and formation. Here is how we think he will start the game.
GK Roefs: An ever-present so far this season since arriving in the summer. Has proved to be a bargain at around £10 million.
RB Mukiele: Versatile, solid defender and long throw expert. Expect all attacking throws from either side to be launched into the box
CB Alderete: Has formed a good partnership with Dan Ballard since arriving. Strong in defence and a threat in the opposition area.
CB Ballard: The rock of Sunderland. A powerful and brave defender who is a big threat from set pieces.
LB Reinildo: Back after an injury kept him out of the last game. Has been improving with every game. Solid in defence and attack-minded.
CM Xhaka ©: Sunderland’s captain fantastic. Has been a revelation since arriving and leads by example.
CM Sadiki: Will cover every blade of grass and won’t give the opposition a moment’s peace.
LW Talbi: Young, talented winger capable of scoring big goals against big opposition. Ask Chelsea and Liverpool.
RW Traore: Experienced and hard-working winger signed from Ajax in the summer. Capable of a bit of magic in tight situations.
AM Le Fee: A skilful attacking midfielder who can unlock any defence either in open play or via a set piece.
ST Isidor: Hard-working striker but hasn’t scored since the away win a Chelsea. Due a goal, and this is the type of game he will love.
Substitutes: Patterson, Hume, Geertuida, Neil, Mayenda, Mundle, Adingra, Brobbey, Rigg
