Sunderland vs Bournemouth: Latest Team and Injury News

Sunderland News

Romiane Mundle – In Contention

Has taken part in another full week of training and played 45 minutes for the U21s, scoring the winner against Sporting Lisbon. Regis Le Bris spoke about Mundle this week and whether the winger will be available against Bournemouth. He said: “Romaine is available for selection because he’s a winger and got some minutes and success as well on the pitch for the U21s. So it’s possible he could be involved, but we have the full squad, and so we don’t have to rush. Now it’s just a question of choice, if I want to make the choice or not.”

Dennis Cirkin and Leo Hjelde – Out

Both defenders are back in training after being missing all season with wrist and achilles injuries. However, neither will be rushed back as they continue to build up their fitness levels.

Habib Diarra – Out

The midfielder is expected back next month from a groin injury that has kept him sidelined since September. A return by the Wear-Tyne derby is possible. Regis Le Bris recently gave an update on the Senegalese international. He said: “He’s doing well, his rehab process is positive at the minute. He’s pain-free. He feels really good. But we still have a period, even if you feel good, you know that you need time to recover.

Aji Alese – out

Has been out for the majority of the year and although he has returned to light training, is not expected to be in contention until the new year.

Bournemouth News

Antoine Semenyo – Expected to be available

Former Sunderland loanee Antoine Semenyo should be available for selection after missing the Cherries game against West Ham last weekend. Head coach Andoni Iraola spoke about his star man in his pre-match press conference. He said: “Yeah I hope so. We still have to do training but he has been doing modified training with the team in the previous days so if everything goes well today he’s going to be available.”

Justin Kluivert – Doubt

Like Semenyo, missed the draw with West Ham and is still a doubt for this game. Although only a minor injury, Saturday’s game could come to soon for him.

Ryan Christie – Out

Scotland midfielder Christie was injured while helping the Tartan Army qualify for the World Cup recently. An MRI confirmed a knee sprain, which is likely to keep him out for several weeks

Ben Gannon-Doak – Out

Has undergone a successful surgery on a hamstring injury that he sustained while playing for Scotland. The winger is not expected back until some point in the new year
