Sunderland vs Liverpool: Latest Team and Injury News Plus Predicted Lineups

Sunderland Team and Injury News

Captain Granit Xhaka will once again miss out with an ankle injury. Bertrand Traore will also be absent due to the injury sustained on international duty at AFCON.

In his pre-match press conference, head coach Regis Le Bris gave an update on the injured duo. He said, “Bertrand is in the same dynamic as Granit. It is always symptom-driven – he’s in a good place, but it will be a few more weeks. He needs to rest and take care of his knee. We can’t rush the process.”

Le Bris also confirmed that new signing Nilson Angulo has trained with the squad, is fit, and is ready to play. He made a cameo at Arsenal on Saturday but could feature more against the reigning champions on Wednesday night.

Another January signing, Jocelin Ta Bi, has now begun full training following an ankle injury; however, he will not be considered for this game.

Liverpool Team and Injury News

Arne Slot will be without the suspended Dominik Szoboszlai following his red card against Manchester City at the weekend. Slot will also have to deal with what will feel like an ever-growing list of injuries.

Out are Alexander Isak, Jeremie Frimpong, Jayden Danns, Conor Bradley, and Stefan Bajcetic. Versatile defender Joe Gomez is a major doubt and gives Arne Slot a bigger headache as to who will play at right-back against the Black Cats. He said on Tuesday, “Joe has not trained with us yet. I’m expecting him to train with us for the first time.

“Indeed, if Joe is not ready to start, then we are missing four players who have played in that position. But Curtis [Jones] and Wata [Endo] also played in that position this year, so we’ve had six different right full-backs this season.”
