Svilar wants to stay as new Roma deal set to be signed

Mile Svilar looks set to sign a contract extension with Roma in the coming days, as reports from Italy reveal that the goalkeeper’s desire to stay with the Giallorossi was vital in getting the new deal over the line.

Roma consider the Serbian shot-stopper to be an important part of the club’s future , with the player’s motivational and professional attributes considered to be in line with the ambition of new head coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

According to what has been reported by the Corriere dello Sport, Svilar himself intervened to ensure that his representatives would get him a substantial new deal to stay in the Italian capital. A meeting was held two weeks ago in Trigoria between the club and the player’s entourage, with Svilar present himself to clarify his intentions to remain a Roma player.

An official confirmation of the new contract is expected to arrive this week, with the Serbian both happy at the club and living in Rome.

Svilar is a sign of Roma’s ambitions

After just being awarded Serie A goalkeeper of the season, Svilar was the subject of interest from top clubs such as Bayern Munich and Milan. However, with Claudio Ranieri’s short stint at the club and Gasperini’s arrival, it is clear that the Giallorossi are looking to put recent struggles behind them and once again aim for the top.

Roma are prepared to show their faith in the former Benfica goalkeeper, with an estimated annual wage of around €3.5-4 million until 2029. A bumper deal for one of world football’s up-and-coming goalkeepers, the 25-year-old will see his salary nearly quadruple when he puts pen to paper.
