Sweden vs. Romania Starting Lineups, Preview

Sweden hosts Romania at the Strawberry Arena in their opening fixture of the 2026-27 UEFA Nations League campaign.

Sweden are coming off a World Cup run where they were eliminated by France in the Round of 32. Although they secured a 5-1 win over Tunisia in the group stage, the Blue and Yellow suffered a heavy loss to the Netherlands by the same scoreline. They then closed out the group stage with a draw against Japan before being beaten 3-0 by France in the knockout stage.

Romania, meanwhile, have played four international matches this year and have won just one, which came against Wales in June.

Sweden also have the advantage in their head-to-head history, with six wins compared to Romania’s three. The teams last met during the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign, when Sweden completed a 2-1 victory in Stockholm and a 2-0 win in Romania.

Sweden will be without Anthony Elanga, who is dealing with a hamstring injury. Defenders Gustaf Lagerbielke and Isak Hien are also sidelined, along with goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterström. Graham Potter has also lost Mattias Svanberg, who withdrew from the squad late.

Despite those absences, Sweden still have plenty of firepower up front, with Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyökeres leading the attack.
