Tottenham Hotrspur urged to focus on Leeds United challenge following Bodo/Glimt draw

Tottenham managed to salvage a crucial point in the Champions League after staging a dramatic late comeback against Bodo/Glimt away from home. The Lilywhites looked in serious trouble right from the first whistle. With the Norwegian side immediately putting Thomas Frank’s men on the back foot. From team selection to the players’ approach, almost everything raised questions among the Spurs faithful.

Despite conceding a penalty in the first half, the North London club somehow escaped without damage as Bodo/Glimt failed to covert their chances. Rather than using that slice of luck as a wake-up call, Spurs remained sluggish, and the home side punished them after the break. Within minutes of the restart, the Lilywhites found themselves 2-0 down and staring at defeat.

It took an hour for the Lilywhites to finally respond. Tactical changes in attack injected some much-needed urgency for Spurs, and they quickly halved the deficit when Micky van de Ven powered in a close-range header in the 68th minute. From that point on, the North London club pile on the pressure, and their persistence paid off late in stoppage time when Jostein Gundersen inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, securing a 2-2 draw.

Tottenham need to be pleased with a point against Bodo/Glimt

On paper, Tottenham are unbeaten in their last six games across all competitions since the international break. While that may look like a positive step for Thomas Frank, the reality on the pitch has been far less convincing. More often than not, Spurs have been thoroughly outplayed, and the pragmatic approach of the Danish tactician has done little to inspire confidence.

Still, Steve McManaman has still urged the Spurs faithful to look at the positives and be pleased with the result in Norway. Speaking on TNT Sports (via X), McManaman said,

“You need to get it done as early as possible. You need to get as many points because financially you get money with those points as well. We’ve seen Tottenham’s fixture list in this tournament. And it’s friendly, particularly at home. If you go win those games and get a point away here or somewhere else, you’re going to qualify.”

The Liverpool legend added,

“And that’s all that matters. This game will be in the past. If Spurs qualify, they won’t be thinking that they were lucky against Bodo/Glimt. Who cares? They’ve got a point. You take it, move on, and get back home to focus on Leeds. That’s the most important thing now.”

Steve McManaman remains confident that Tottenham can still progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League despite their underwhelming display in Norway. He believes Thomas Frank’s men will not dwell on this performance if they secure qualification and instead should immediately shift their attention to the Premier League.

Spurs’ next test comes against Leeds United, where supporters will hope that Thomas Frank fields his strongest eleven. The newly promoted side are expected to come out aggressively at Elland Road, meaning Spurs must stick to their game plan and play with greater positivity. A win would not only restore confidence, but also strengthen their position in the top-half of the Premier League table.
