Talk of protests is premature, still time for Celtic to show ‘ambition’

Relations between the Celtic support and the hierarchy can be described as simmering at the best of times, but presently that tension is close to boiling over, and with very good reason.

We can’t deny that the suits have us in a good place financially thanks to the incredible support the club gets from the support, but their constant unwillingness to show any ‘ambition’ as Brendan Rodgers calls it and push the boat out when it comes to recruitment is bordering on incompetence or even insanity.

The last few weeks have been nothing short of embarrassing

The last few weeks have been nothing short of embarrassing with our club failing to bring in the desired quality we need to remain not only the dominant force in Scotland, but make our mark in Europe, especially with a £40m Champions League play-off tie to be paid in August.

We’ve been lowballing teams with offers for their prized assets, and refusing to pay the going rate despite sitting on record revenues which have swelled even further due to the £17m sale of Nicolas Kuhn to Como. All the while the wage bill has come down as the players THEY signed in the summer of 2013 have been offloaded one by one.

Then they get the Chairman’s puppet to state that it’s actually all Brendan Rodgers fault. Incidentally after Ange left and before Brendan was confirmed as our manager for the second time, he was being disrespected in that very same place, thankfully it has very little impact and next to no respect among the Celtic support and the new wave of Celtic sites thankfully not having this type of relationships with the Board.

There’s talk on social media of a flag-day protest 

This has all led to relations between the club and the supporters being further strained, so much so that there’s been talk on social media of some action in the form of a protest, with an image of Michael Nicholson doing the rounds last night, similar to what we saw back in the covid season.

It’s not been confirmed but with all the bad tension and the lack of communication from our board – other than via their puppet – I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some sort of protest in the coming week, quite possibly on flag day against St Mirren on Sunday afternoon.

Talk of protests in understandable but also premature 

For me personally, I think it’s ridiculous to talk of protests especially on the opening day of the new campaign that sees us raise the flag to signal our defence of the league title for the fourth consecutive year. The last time that happened was on when Fergus McCann raised the flag that stopped the ten and some supporters booed and that was down to the constant attacks on him in the tabloids, who incidentally still have their feet under the table at Celtic Park.

However, if things remain the same come the start of September, then that’s a different story and the Celtic support will let their feelings be heard. Why not just back the manager? Help him get us through the Champions League qualifier and pick up the extra £40m?
