Tannadice defeat final nail in Celtic title coffin – Sutton

Martin O’Neill’s side is effectively going to have to win all seven matches and hope for another slip up or two from Hearts along the way if they are going to retain the trophy for the 14th time in 15 seasons. In the Scottish Cup nothing can be taken for granted although Celtic will be clear favourites to lift the trophy yet again.

Sutton’s chilling Celtic warning 

Chris Sutton’s newspaper column today is a chilling warning for everyone connected with Celtic as he fears the worst in the league campaign, points out the clear and obvious dangers in the cup after knocking out the Rangers at Ibrox in the quarter-finals and asks pertinent questions about what is going to happen next at the club when the dust settles on this truly awful season.

Sutton reckons that the Celtic support should prepare for the worst, predicting yet more pain and suffering coming in our direction in the remaining weeks of the season and beyond.

Writing in his weekly column in Daily Record the former Celtic striker is now clearly pessimistic about Celtic’s title chances while laying the blame firmly on the shoulders of those running the club incredibly badly.

Serious and self-inflicted damage

“If the club doesn’t start repairing some of the serious and self-inflicted damage placed onto themselves, that could end up stretching into months and turning one bad season into another,” Sutton warns.

“I’m well aware the focus on the park at this minute in time is about the here and now. In that respect, I have to say it’s not going well in terms of the title race. Looking at the current situation I don’t think Celtic are going to win this battle. It needs seven wins out of seven, or at least six and a draw,” Sutton reckons.

That though would require quite a few results to go our way. Seven wins from seven is probably going to be needed and even then we need some assistance from elsewhere. We’re already at the stage of needing snookers.

Hard enough to imagine Celtic putting seven passes together

“Does this Celtic side look to you as though they are capable of that? If you think they are, then you are watching a different set of players from the ones I have been seeing for months,” Sutton stated.

“It’s hard enough to imagine Celtic putting seven passes together on the evidence of last Sunday at Tannadice never mind seven wins. The squad’s a mess. Players don’t look as though as they are connected as one unit and the overall standard is pretty miserable.

“That loss to Dundee United was the final nail in the Celtic title coffin for me as I now see Hearts and (the) Rangers having a better chance of lifting the trophy,” Sutton said.

Sutton’s Scottish Cup warning 

And there’s no counting of chickens from the Sky Sports, Celtic minded pundit either when considering Celtic’s cup prospects.

“Sure, there’s a Scottish Cup on the table and a trophy is a trophy, but you couldn’t put your hat on Celtic beating St Mirren in the semi-finals. Let’s face it, they couldn’t do it in the Premier Sports Cup Final,” Chris Sutton warned.

Depressing as it is, it’s hard to argue with a single word Sutton has written for this morning’s column.
