Inter will have to do without Mehdi Taremi at the Club World Cup and he is expected to miss the entire group phase, trapped in Tehran under bombardment.

The striker had taken some personal time after the Champions League Final and international duty with Iran to be at home with his family.

He was set to meet up with his Inter teammates at the tournament in Los Angeles, where they will open their Club World Cup campaign against Monterrey this weekend.

Taremi stuck in Tehran

It is now obvious that he will not be able to make the journey from Iran to the USA, as no flights are leaving Tehran due to the escalating armed conflict between Iran and Israel.

More than 150 targets in Iran have been hit over the last 24 hours and La Gazzetta dello Sport warn that the situation is far too volatile to risk Taremi travelling on the ground either.

It is still a developing situation and getting him to America for the tournament now seems unlikely, at least for the group phase.

Inter are in Group A, where they will play Monterrey, Urawa Reds and River Plate.

The Nerazzurri are in contact with Iranian authorities and are assured Taremi is safe.
