Former Chelsea player Jason Cundy has urged the Blues to sign “Premier League ready” Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid.
The Blues were linked with Alvarez before he made the switch to La Liga, and he’s scored 40 goals in 88 appearances for Atletico.
Chelsea signed five attackers last summer as they completely revamped the forward line, and are expected to add more attackers this coming summer.
The Blues currently have Joao Pedro and Liam Delap as their number nine options, whilst Emmanuel Emegha will arrive from Strasbourg in the summer.
Pedro has done well and has already matched his tally of ten Premier League goals from last season, whilst Delap has struggled.
Alvarez could be on the move this summer, and the 26-year-old has also been linked with Arsenal and Barcelona, but Cundy has urged the Blues to make a move.
“When we talk about what Chelsea need, we often talk about an off the peg type of player, Julian Alvarez fits that type of player that we need,” he told talkSPORT (watch here).
“That is the type of player I’d like us to sign more of. He’s Premier League ready. You’re not going to be waiting for someone to adapt to the Premier League.
“There’s a lot to like about him, but it is a lot of money.”
According to reports Atletico would be looking for at least £86m if they were to let Alvarez leave at the end of the season.
Whether Chelsea make a move for Alvarez remains to be seen, but they do have a striker arriving in the shape of Emegha.
Emegha scored 14 goals in Ligue 1 last season under Liam Rosenior, and made his debut for the Dutch national team in November.
The 23-year-old provides another option, but again like so many of Chelsea’s signings he’s not a proven entity, and it will be interesting to see how he adapts.
