Celtic’s match winner and Sandman’s Man of the Match Alex Oxlade Chamberlain yesterday applauded the power of the Green Brigade after his goal won the three points to keep Celtic’s late title push on track…

The ban on the Celtic Ultras group had lasted since last November after Michael Nicholson dug a hole for himself that he simply refused to get out of – a classic case of pride before a fall but that can now wait until the end of the season. We have a double to win in the meantime and with the Green Brigade back that now looks more likely.

“That was my first glimpse into the power those guys have in terms of the rest of the stadium and lifting the crowd,” Celtic’s match-winner said and Oxlade Chamberlain too reckons that the return of the Green Brigade is of huge significance for Celtic’s title winning prospects.

“They can help us get over the line in tough games. The crowd will be massive for us and it was great to see them back in. I could feel a real difference because I hadn’t experienced it before.

“The atmosphere has been great in previous games, but it was nice to have them back and it’s good for all the fan base,” the Ox said.

He added: “We went over to that small section at the end, and the noise they made and the passion they showed is going to be huge for us, especially in games like that when it’s 1-0 and can be cagey.”

That’s the time when you need the fans and they can make a massive difference for us.
We are still in the race and right up there. We want to win our games and let the rest take care of itself.

“Though there have been periods where we’ve not picked up results we wanted, we are still in with a chance. We are not going to lie down.”

Next up for Celtic is the Scottish Cup semi-final next weekend once again against St Mirren as the Scottish Premiership takes a back seat for a week ahead of the post-split fixtures. There is however once game to be played before that as Falkirk take on the Rangers at the Falkirk Stadium this lunchtime.

Here’s hoping for a victory for John McGlynn’s side who have had an impressive first season back in the Scottish Premiership and have fully deserved their place in the top six.
