The Athletic have just put out their six-man shortlist who they say are in line to replace Mauricio Pochettino as the new Chelsea manager.

The Blues came to a mutual agreement with Pochettino yesterday and the Argentine had his contract as head coach at the club terminated with immediate effect. Chelsea are on the hunt for a new permanent head coach now ahead of a busy summer of transfer plans going into pre-season and then next season. There are MANY important decisions to make now at the club, and the next biggest one will be the new manager.

So who will it be?

Well, according to The Athletic, there are six names on Chelsea’s shortlist right now:

● Kieran McKenna
● Enzo Maresca
● Thomas Frank
● Sebastian Hoeness (challenging)
● Vincent Kompany (unlikely)
● Roberto De Zerbi (unlikely, but not ruled out)

It looks like Chelsea want a young manager who is progressive and ready to accept the project that the club are already in.

Uninspiring choices?

I don’t expect Chelsea fans will be too pleased reading these names, with many of them lacking any real experience and pedigree. But just like with the players they are signing, Chelsea seemingly just want young everything at the club right now, and with young comes lack of experience.

I think some of the names above are certainly intriguing, with the likes of Hoeness being the most intriguing to me. I think he’s done a great job at Stuttgart but again, he’s unproven and he presents a huge risk, as do all the other names on this list.

Pochettino has gone now though so there will be no looking back and only looking forward, and perhaps one of these names mentioned above can become THE next biggest thing in football coaching. Only time will tell I guess.
