'The main objective is to get the win,' Liam Scales

Speaking to Celtic TV the Ireland international centre-back reckons that things will be more enjoyable and entertaining for the 60,000 Celtic supporters who will fill Celtic Park this afternoon in the 3pm kick-off.

“It’s good to have games every couple of days because, good or bad, you can’t dwell on the previous game, you always have to be thinking about the next one,” Scales said reflecting on the disappointing result against Braga.

“Obviously, we want to put that right in our next European game and we need to be better and pick up points, but right now we are moving on to the Motherwell game and it is sort of a blessing to have it so close.

“It’s really important to go into the international break off the back of a win. Motherwell are a different side this season to what they have been,” the Celtic defender added.

Scales, like many in Scottish football, has been impressed by the way Motherwell has started the season and the change in playing style that their new manager has brought in.

“They’re playing a lot more football on the ground so it’ll be interesting to see, but for us, we’ve just got to think about hitting our performance levels and winning the game.

“From what we’ve watched of them so far this season, they’re playing really good football which it’s good to see, but we just need to be ready for that different challenge to what we usually face against a typical Motherwell side.

“We just want points on the board and, ideally, we want to keep a clean sheet and score a few goals, but we know it’s never that simple so the main objective is to get the win.”

Talking of the board, after today’s match is out the way all Celtic eyes will be on the meeting tomorrow between Michael Nicholson, Chris McKay and other representatives from the club and various supporters groups under the new umbrella of the Celtic Fans Collective and the first thing that has to be agreed is recognition of the Collective from the club.

Much to discuss about that meeting later but for now let’s hope that the team plays better and find some goalscoring form to narrow the gap on Hearts.
