The Netherlands dominate Sweden in 5-1 victory

The Netherlands dominated rival Sweden in 5-1 thrashing to secure their first win of the 2026 World Cup.

The Dutch would find their first and second goal within the first two minutes, coming courtesy of a Brian Brobbey brace.

Interestingly enough, through the first half the Swedes would hold the shot advantage.

Outshooting the Netherlands nine to five, with four of those shots requiring saves from goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

In the second half the Dutch kept the offense high flying, scoring three goals.

Cody Gakpo would pick up a brace of his own during the second half with goals in the 47th and 54th minutes.

And while Sweden would collect a goal in the 59th minute thanks to Anthony Elanga.

But a Crysencio Summerville in the 89th minute would all but seal the game.

The Netherlands and Sweden will both play their final group stage matches at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

The Netherland will take on Tunisia looking to possibly win the group with a win.

Sweden will match up against Japan who, like the Netherlands, will also be searching for a win to top the group.
