The top goal scorer for every Premier League team in the 2023-24 season

Football is the beautiful game, and it is full of strategy and nuance. Also, you have to score goals to win games. There’s a reason why the guys who get goals tend to bring in the biggest transfer fees and have the highest salaries. From the best teams in the Premier League to, um, Sheffield United, every team has a leading goal scorer. Here is every player who led their club in goals for the 2023-24 Premier League season.

The Gunners finished second this season, and they got there with a real team effort. In addition to the quality play of Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, three different players scored double-digit goals. Best of the bunch was Saka, who scored 16 goals in his age-22 season. Arsenal has a burgeoning superstar in the mix.

Aston Villa: Ollie Watkins

There’s a strong case for Watkins to be considered the Player of the Year in the Premier League. Not only did Watkins play a key role in Aston Villa finishing fourth, earning a spot in the Champions League for the first time since the 1980s, but he was the offense for the club in many ways. Not only did Watkins score 19 goals, he led the league with 14 assists.

Bournemouth: Dominic Solanke

Solanke took a major leap for Bournemouth this season. After having six goals last season, he tallied 19 goals this year. Now, those 19 goals came on only 38 shots on target, so maybe Solanke was a little lucky. Then again, the English striker did take 108 shots, so he was active. Next year will be intriguing when it comes to Solanke.

Brentford: Yoane Wissa

Brentford fell from ninth last season to 16th this season. Also, it’s probably not a coincidence that Ivan Toney missed more than half the season thanks to a gambling suspension. He only played in 17 games, and perhaps out of form only managed four goals. Wissa, who was with the club last year, had to step up. He tallied 12 goals. Hey, Brentford wasn’t relegated. Now, it just needs to keep the guys from getting suspended.

Brighton & Hove Albion: Joao Pedro

Pascal Gross tallied 11 assists for Brighton, but nobody stepped up on the goal-scoring front. Nobody on the Seagulls hit the double-digit goal mark. After potting 11 goals for Watford in the Championship last season, Pedro joined Brighton this season. The Brazilian finished with nine goals. Robert De Zerbi is gone, so what will the makeup be offensively for the club next season?

Burnley: Jacob Bruun Larsen

Here we have the first of three teams that got relegated. Burnley finished in the bottom three in goals for and goals against, but not last in either. Silver lining! It turns out to be harder to score at the Premier League level than the Championship level. Jay Rodriguez, for example, went from 10 goals last season to two this year. Larsen, a winger, was on loan from Hoffenheim this season. He led Burnley with six — yes, six — goals.

Chelsea: Cole Palmer

It was a disappointing season for Chelsea. The Blues spent a ton of money, but still didn’t finish in the top four. A lot of those big-money signings flopped, but Palmer was a major silver lining for the club. In his age-21 season, Palmer finished second in the Premier League with 22 goals. He’s played a couple times for England already, and likely will many more times going forward.

Crystal Palace: Jean-Philippe Mateta

Palace got hot down the stretch, going 6-1-0 over its last seven games. Mateta was a huge part of that, and he ended up leading the team in goals basically off of that stretch. While a hat trick against an Aston Villa team with nothing to play for in the season finale juiced the stats a bit, that was part of nine goals over his last six games, giving him 16 on the season.

Everton: Abdoulaye Doucoure and Dominic Calvert-Lewin

As you may know, when two players are tied in terms of goals, such as at the World Cup, the tiebreaker is assists. The issue here is that Doucoure and Calvin-Lewin tied with seven goals, and also with two assists. Not only that, they both made 32 appearances, so “goals per game” can’t even be used to break the tie. These two, as a result, are the only duo sharing the stage on this list.

Fulham: Rodrigo Muniz

If your club’s leading goal scorer doesn’t hit double-digit goals, they will be a young Brazilian who is not terribly well-known. That was true for Brighton, and it is true for Fulham. Muniz, a 23-year-old Brazilian, tallied nine goals like Joao Pedro did. Notably, Muniz did that in only 26 games.

Liverpool: Mohamed Salah

Salah failed to hit the 20-goal mark this season. What a slacker! He scored all of 18 goals in Jurgen Klopp’s farewell season. We’re kidding, of course. Salah missed some time with injury, so his 18 goals (and his 10 assists) came in 28 games. Had he played another five or six games, he would have joined the 20-goal crew.

Luton Town: Carlton Morris

Luton got relegated, but its problem was more on the defensive end. The team allowed 85 goals, second most in the Premier League, but scored 52 goals. Two different players for the club had double-digit goals, led by Morris with 11. He had 20 for Luton down in the Championship last season. Morris is 28, and he showed he can hang at the Premier League level. Maybe he will transfer clubs to stick in the Premier League.

Manchester City: Erling Haaland

Some call him a flat-track bully. He gets an unusual amount of flak. Also, he keeps scoring goals. Haaland has spent two seasons in the Premier League, and he’s led the league in goals both times. Now, he didn’t replicate his 36 goals from last year. Haaland missed a few games, only playing in 31 Premier League contests. Even so, his 27 goals beat Palmer by a full five goals. If he’s a “goal poacher,” he’s the best one in the world.

Manchester United: Bruno Fernandes

United finished eighth with 60 points, the club’s worst Premier League finish. Bright spots were rare, but they exist. Fernandes, now captain of the club, was one of them. He had 10 goals, as did Rasmus Hojlund, but Fernandes also led the team with eight assists. With changes afoot at Manchester United, will Fernandes’ role be different? Or will his club be different?

Newcastle United: Alexander Isak

If you aren’t a Newcastle United fan, you may not realize just how good Isak was this season. He was one of the breakthrough stars in the Premier League. The Swedish striker had 10 goals, which was encouraging, but this year he took things to a whole new level. Isak tallied 21 goals in 30 games. He is the last of the three players to hit the 20-goal mark this season.

Nottingham Forest: Chris Wood

Wood is arguably the best New Zealand footballer ever. He’s also well into his career. After a failed stint at Newcastle that resulted in a loan to Nottingham Forest, Wood joined the club full time this season. Though he turned 32 during the 2023-24 campaign, Wood tallied 14 goals in 31 games. Without his goal scoring, Forest would have likely been relegated.

Sheffield United: Oliver McBurnie

Sheffield had an all-time bad Premier League season. It only won three games and scored a mere 35 goals. That’s less than a goal per game! Two Blades scored six goals, including McBurnie. He also had three assists, though, so he gets the nod over Ben Brereton Diaz.

Tottenham Hotspur: Son Heung-Min

With Harry Kane now in Munich, Son was clearly the lead guy for Spurs. And yet, he didn’t have a career year. This is a player who once had 23 goals, of course. This season, Son scored 17 goals, which is quite good, but not 23. He also had nine assists, though.

West Ham United: Jarrod Bowen

Luck was on Bowen’s side in his fifth season with West Ham. His 16 goals were a personal best, but those goals came on 34 shots on target. Bowen basically scored on every other shot he took. That likely won’t happen again next season. Still, good for Bowen!

Wolverhampton Wanderers: Matheus Cunha

Wolves’ offense was built around the dynamic duo of Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan. Both of them scored 12 goals, and nobody else on the club had more than four. Cunha also had seven assists, so he gets the edge over his teammate.
