Guglielmo Vicario conceding it’s tough to come to terms with consistently falling short at Tottenham

Tottenham never expected this season to go smoothly, and things quickly unravelled following an injury crisis. As the team relied on youngsters who struggled to keep up, performances dipped and Spurs slipped into disarray. Despite sitting 17th in the league and enduring a string of poor results, it’s still remarkable that they’ve reached the Europa League final with a real shot at ending a 17-year trophy drought. Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario admitted it’s been tough for him and his teammates to accept being second best in so many league matches this season.

With just two games remaining and a club-record 20 defeats in the league, Tottenham Hotspur’s season has been anything but perfect. However, they still have the opportunity to qualify for next season’s Champions League and earn some silverware, having reached the Europa League final where they will face Manchester United. Goalkeeper Vicario speaking to Hayters.com has urged his teammates to buy in to manager Ange Postecoglou’s game plan before the high stakes match. While many fans are calling for the Australian to be dismissed, the players are all-in and have confidence in his plan, which has been one of the few positives in a terrible season.

Tottenham’s European success should not be overlooked amid Premier League struggles

Vicario expressed in his interview with Hayters, that the team is focused on creating history and achieving success with Ange Postecoglou. He pointed out that it is important to do things their own way in light of what they have established over the past two seasons. The team doesn’t take losing, but some people just need to acknowledge that sometimes the other team is just better and that is what is hardest to swallow. He also spoke about the togetherness in the squad.

The Italian further reported that regardless of the hardships, the players approach every session and game as a family. As they approach the Europa League final, Vicario pointed out the team sees the next match as significant and they want to approach it together. He also made it clear that Tottenham’s struggles in the Premier League shouldn’t diminish what they achieved in Europe.

Opportunities to play in the final are rare in a player’s career and Vicario see’s this as a huge opportunity for the players, the club and the fan base. He conveyed the team very much so wants to bring home the trophy, as that would be a permanent place in the clubs history in which their names would be on the wall in the stadium.

The Italian expressed his belief in the team, and does not wants to overlook the European success

“I think the most important thing is, for us as a group, is to try to create history in a certain way and try to do it our way, especially on what we’ve tried to create it over the last two seasons under Ange,”

“He gives us everything, and we try to replicate this every day, not accepting some losses, but trying to do our best but sometimes you have to understand, sometimes the opponents are better than you, and this is, for me, the toughest thing to accept.”

“What we did in the European Cup cannot be diminished for sure, because we have the opportunity now to play a final, and I don’t know how many times during a career this can happen,”

“So it’s a big opportunity for us players and for everyone involved with this football club, for the fans.”

This interview came at exactly the right moment for the Lilywhites. In a season clouded by panic and frustration, Guglielmo Vicario’s maturity and composure offered a sense of clarity and calm. At a time when criticism is loud and confidence is low, the Italian did both the fans and the players a favour by reminding everyone not to overlook Tottenham’s European success. As Ange Postecoglou once pointed out—if reaching a final were that easy, every club would be doing it.
