'There are just bad moments' – 21-year-old attacker talks about Manchester United after summer exit

Manchester United had a very eventful summer transfer window. The Red Devils brought in a host of players, including Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Šeško, but more prominently they also moved on a number of players who were no longer in Rúben Amorim’s plans.

This included Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Højlund and Antony. Some left on permanent transfers, while others departed on loans with options or obligations to buy. Among those names, the Argentinian attacker joined Chelsea.

Garnacho was once touted as the next big thing to emerge from the Man Utd academy. The 21-year-old impressed with his performances under Erik ten Hag and, just when it seemed he would take his career to the next level, Rúben Amorim arrived.

Garnacho’s time at Manchester United didn’t hit expected heights

The Portuguese tactician and the young attacker did not always see eye to eye, and the relationship reached breaking point after the latter’s words following Man Utd’s 1–0 defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final. From that point onwards, there was no coming back.

Now, in an interview quoted by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Garnacho has spoken about his time at Manchester United and how it played out. He said:

“I’ve got nothing bad to say about my old club Manchester United. There are just bad moments in life… I’m very happy to be here now, play in this competition and get 3 points today.”

Not a warm reception

Garnacho chose to play it safe and not speak negatively about his days at Man Utd, but the fans do not seem to have much love left for him. The South American was booed and jeered upon his return to Old Trafford, despite not playing a single minute for the Blues in that game.

Sometimes managers have player preferences that go against common sense. Garnacho was widely regarded as a world-class talent in the making. Maybe with more backing and trust, he could have become a huge player for Manchester United, leading the attack for the next decade.

However, Amorim’s decisions mean the Argentinian is now at Chelsea, looking to get his faltering career back on track. It will be interesting to keep an eye on how the youngster’s development plays out.
