Olivier Giroud has recalled the time when he first met Zlatan Ibrahimovic as a new AC Milan player and how he got a first-hand experience of the kind of character he is.

It had been speculated about for weeks, but yesterday it was finally announced by Giroud himself that he will be leaving Milan at the end of the season as the striker gave an emotional interview to Milan TV.

Stefano Pioli and his team-mates all sent their own goodbye messages and it certainly provides a chance to reflect on his time at the club, where he arrived from Chelsea in the summer of 2021 and was originally meant to be a deputy to Ibrahimovic.

Speaking of the Swede, Giroud told an interesting anecdote as part of the interview he gave about the ‘welcome’ that he was given by Zlatan.

“Ibra really welcomed me and I’ll always remember what he said to me when he saw me: ‘There’s only one king in Milan, and it’s me’,” he said.

“I liked him a lot right away, he was entertaining, but he helped me understand that I’d come to a big club and you always have to do your best.”
