'They have to back him'- Darren Bent urges Tottenham chairman to support new manager in the summer

A slow start to the summer has put a lot of pressure on Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy

Tottenham fans will still have a bittersweet feeling while thinking about how last season went. The Lilywhites managed to end their 17-year wait for a major trophy by winning the Europa League against all odds. But on the other hand, the North London club also failed to perform in the Premier League and finished just a place above the relegation zone.

The poor domestic form costed Ange Postecoglou his job at N17 just two weeks after the club ended its long-standing trophy drought. One might say that the Australian tactician was not backed in the January transfer window as the squad endured an injury crisis midway through the season. But no one will ever know why the ex-Celtic boss failed to get his team perform well in the Premier League.

Now, Thomas Frank has come in as he looks to build on the Europa League success next season. The Danish tactician has made it clear from the start that he aims to make Tottenham ‘serial winners’ as the club looks to compete on all four fronts next season. To achieve that, the ex-Brentford boss will need to be backed in the summer and reinforcements will be needed in all areas of the pitch.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy needs to back Thomas Frank

All eyes will be on Daniel Levy as he looks to make wholesale changes to the squad before pre-season commences. As of now, Tottenham have not made a mark in the transfer market and the Lilywhites are already playing catch-up in the window while other teams are bringing players quickly. If things continue to remain stagnant in the summer, Thomas Frank will find it tough to close that gap on other teams next season.

Former Spurs player Darren Bent has also come out and urged Daniel Levy to back Thomas Frank in the transfer window. Speaking on talkSPORT, Bent said,

“Doesn’t look like they’re backing Thomas Frank. I’m sure he has a list of players of his own. For Thomas Frank going into this job, he would have looked at when he played against them couple of times last season, he would have seen how they got on.”

The ex-Spurs player added,

“He’ll watch footage from the start of the season to how they finished the season, and he’ll know they need reinforcements all over the pitch. Surely they have to back him now. You go all out to sack Ange, who won you a trophy and bring Thomas Frank in because you believe he is the right man. So , you have to give him every single possibility to succeed.”

Darren Bent believes that Daniel Levy is not backing Thomas Frank in the transfer market. The ex-player insists that the Danish tactician would know that new signings are needed after the dismal Premier League campaign that the Lilywhites endured last season. Bent adds that Levy went all out to sack Ange Postecoglou so that Thomas Frank would be given a chance to succeed at N17, so the Spurs chairman must aim to back the ex-Brentford boss in the summer and give him the required players to do well.

The anxious wait to bring in reinforcements goes on as we approach the business-end of the transfer window. With pre-season just around the corner, the North London club must be quick and sign new players that would suit Thomas Frank’s system. Bringing new signings to N17 should not be the only priority for the Lilywhites as a massive clear-out is also needed to get rid of underperforming players.
