Thibaut Courtois shared that Liverpool players couldn’t believe how many saves he was pulling off during their Champions League match earlier this week.

Despite a string of impressive stops, it was Alexis Mac Allister who ultimately decided the game with his header, securing a 1-0 win for Arne Slot’s side.

Standing at 6ft 7in and backed by defenders like Eder Militao and Dean Huijsen, Courtois is a difficult goalkeeper to beat. Over the course of the match, it became clear that Liverpool’s forwards were growing more frustrated as the chances kept slipping away.

Courtois spoke about what he and some of Liverpool’s players found themselves laughing about during the game, despite the intensity of the occasion.

Courtois addresses banter with Salah and Van Dijk during Champions League meeting

Liverpool’s issues in front of goal this season have been noticeable. Mohamed Salah hasn’t looked himself, and while the team is starting to show signs of improvement, there are still doubts about their ability to seriously compete for the Premier League and Champions League titles.

It’s still early days, but if the goals don’t start coming soon, they risk falling behind. Even though they played better against Real Madrid on Tuesday, they only just got the win thanks to Courtois’ outstanding performance.

The Belgian keeper later spoke to Stan Sport about a moment he shared with some Liverpool players during the match. Mohamed Salah has been a fraction of his former self, and although everything finally seems to be coming together, there are still question marks about whether Liverpool have what it takes to win the Premier League and Champions League.

“They started to laugh at me, Virgil, Szoboszlai and Salah, and I don’t know who else started laughing like why and Konate also like ‘why you save this again,’” he said.

Liverpool look to continue momentum against Manchester City

After back-to-back wins, there’s a bit more confidence around the team than there was just a few weeks ago.

It hasn’t been an easy stretch for them, especially coming out of a rough October. But lately, things have started to look up again.

A lot of people had high expectations at the start of the season, tipping Liverpool for both the Premier League and Champions League titles. So far, though, they’ve made hard work of it.

Manchester City aren’t exactly an ideal fixture when you’re trying to rebuild form. If Arne Slot doesn’t have his side fully prepared, it could be a long day.

But if Liverpool stick with what’s been working over these past few matches, they should be able to put in another strong performance and stay on track.
