It’s been a while since Harry Kane swapped the Tottenham Hotspur badge on his chest for Bayern Munich. And the England international has been playing some of the best football of his career for the German giants as he powers Vincent Kompany & Co. to the top of the Bundesliga.
You could see how Harry has unlocked another level in his game since moving to Bayern. And that is not just in terms of goals but also about bringing more influence to the game. His movements have been elite, and those link-up plays have been part of some extraordinary sequences as well.
Many think that his game has been maximised because of the players around him. And that is quite precisely what Arsenal icon Thierry Henry suggests as well. Speaking on CBS Sports, he praised the performances that Kane has been putting in in Germany, but he couldn’t hold back on taking a dig at Tottenham while doing so.
He insisted that Kane has been playing with players better than the ones he did at Tottenham and that has helped him unlock the next level. He said (via. CBS Sports):
“No disrespect to Tottenham, but he’s playing now with better players.”
And he is not lying. It does not mean that Kane was a problem at Tottenham or that Tottenham was one for him. In fact, Kane carried the Lilywhites for years. He was getting better records and was delivering good seasons after season at the Lane, and he remained world-class even when the team around him fell short of matching his level. But we play a team sport, and (let’s be honest) there were a number of times where the players around him could not give Kane the platform his talent deserved (something that he is getting now).
That by no means means that the Lilywhites failed entirely during his time in North London. Spurs reached a Champions League final and consistently qualifying for Europe, which gave Kane the platform to become the global phenomenon he is right now. But Tottenham never quite crossed that final threshold of lifting a piece of silverware and becoming an elite superpower. While Bayern already are one.
Now the task for Thomas Frank and Tottenham is to start becoming a side that Kane had to leave Tottenham to find.
We are already watching the chiefs at Hotspur Way being more aggressive in the transfer market but now its time for the players to back that up on the pitch.
