Arsenal are enjoying a strong start to the 2025/26 season and currently sit four points clear at the top of the Premier League table, with only one defeat in all competitions, against Liverpool.
The Gunners will be eager to win the league for the first time since their memorable invincible season. Arsenal’s invincible squad gained over 90 points over 38 games without losing a single match, and was blessed with a great balance of strength and skill.
They had players such as Patrick Vieira and Gilberto Silva, alongside the match-winning skills of Dennis Bergkamp and Robert Pires. Another player central to their success was French wizard Thierry Henry. In a recently resurfaced video, posted by Footy Vaults, Henry revealed what it was like when he joined Arsenal and the culture he had to buy into.
Thierry Henry is rightly remembered as an Arsenal great, appearing 377 times and scoring 228 goals. He remains Arsenal’s record goalscorer after passing Ian Wright’s record. Henry joined Arsenal in 1999 from Juventus to play under Arsene Wenger.
In the video, Henry reveals what it was like to be a part of the Gunners’ squad then:
“When I arrived at Arsenal, you have to impress Tony Adams. You have to impress Martin Keown. You have to impress Lee Dixon. You have to impress Nigel Winterburn. You have to impress David Seaman.
“You have to impress the chef. He’s an Arsenal fan, doesn’t care about you winning the World Cup, and what you did. You didn’t do anything yet here. Who are you? And rightly so, you have to embrace it. You walk in, and you see Dennis Bergkamp and you see the history of the club, and Patrick Vieira was there and some of the guys were there. Some of the French guys they did help me, but those guys made me understand what it was to be there and what I had to do in order to perform,” said Henry.
After leaving Arsenal, Henry moved on to Barcelona in 2007, where he was an integral part of their historic treble-winning 2008/09 season, scoring 26 goals in all competitions.
Following his time at the Camp Nou, Henry moved to New York Red Bulls, scoring 52 goals in 135 games in all competitions.
Another short spell at Arsenal followed before he returned to New York, retiring in 2014. Henry remains one of the greatest strikers of his generation.
