This is Yatao: Focus on Shunsuke Nakamura’s second career

When I start writing about his career and my feelings to him, it’ll be quite a long sentence, so I’ll share about his second career in my article.

He retired his career as player immediately after closing of 22/23 season in J-League and became the coach of first team at Yokohama FC from November 25, 2022.

You may not know much about Yokohama FC, so I’ll explain a little in advance. The club based in Yokohama City, rival club for Yokohama F Marinos that Daizen Maeda, and Tomoki Iwata used to play, Shunsuke Nakamura played for this club from 2019 to 2022.

At that time, Yuki Kobayashi, who had joined this team by rental deal from Vissel Kobe, also played with him and learned a lot from him at this club. In addition, Rudi Vata, his father of Rocco Vata, also played for Yokohama FC in 2003.

And on 19 June, Shunsuke Nakamura took another step as a coach at Yokohama FC.

Training camp for obtaining license for coaches was held by Japan Football Association(JFA). The training camp on this day was only for those who wish to obtain A-class license, and Nakamura also participated as one of them.

JFA Instructor license is divided into 5 major levels from D-class to S-class, and the highest qualification is S-class. S-class of this qualification is equivalent to UEFA professional license, and they can be manager of the club’s first team in J-League or manager of Japanese national team.

Class A is a category below S class, which is equivalent to a UEFA/A licence. By obtaining A-class qualification, they can expand the range of things they can do as a coach of first team at clubs in J-League. However, this is a qualification that applies only in Japan, so if they want to work as coach or manager at European clubs, they need to obtain UEFA licence in Europe.

When considering these things, I guess that he’s aiming to obtain S-class license of JFA for the time being. He has never talked about his goals in his career as a coach, but he’s likely to have career as coach or manager in J-League club or Japanese national team. As Celtic fan, I would like to see him work as a coach at Celtic in the future. Anyway, his career as a coach is going well now.

This is the state of training at Yokohama FC on June 23. It seems that he played a few mini-games as player on this day. There must have been a lot of learning for players on this team.

Also, on June 21, Koki Mizuno, who plays at Iwate Grulla Morioka, which currently belongs to Division 3 of J-League, reunited with Shunsuke Nakamura at training.

Finally, one more thing he is challenging in his second career is his job as a commentator. He is a commentator on UEFA Champions League and La Liga on the media “WOWOW” that has acquired the broadcasting rights of Champions League in Japan. In addition, his work in the media is also very smooth, such as holding talk sessions with Japanese players play in Europe. And there is a high possibility that he will be a commentator in Celtic’s games in next Champions League.

Anyway, his second career has only just begun. I would like to continue to watch what kind of career he will map his future.
