Vinai Venkatesham reveals how Thomas Frank reacted to the appointment of Fabio Paratici and Johan Lange as Tottenham’s co-sporting directors

Tottenham Hotspur announced on Wednesday that transfer chief Fabio Paratici has returned to White Hart Lane on an official basis after months of speculation, and he will work alongside Johan Lange as a co-sporting director.

Spurs are looking to restructure their club hierarchy following the departure of Daniel Levy in September, with majority owners the Lewis family injecting a fresh £100m capital into the club and deeming it not for sale, despite intense speculation from several suitors about a takeover. Now they have taken the initial steps to do that by re-hiring Fabio Paratici.

The Italian, who was forced to resign from his previous Spurs post as managing director in 2023 after a worldwide ban from football, has now made a sensational return to north London and will be tasked with managing the recruitment. Tottenham deciding that Paratici and Lange must share co-sporting director responsibilities is arguably the biggest change we’ve seen since Levy’s exit.

Vinai Venkatesham shares Thomas Frank’s opinion on Paratici and Lange being appointed as co-sporting directors

After being appointed as a co-sporting director of Tottenham, Paratici said he’s “delighted” to return to a club that he loves. He will now work hand-in-hand with Lange to oversee transfers, and the man who might be impacted most is the head coach, Thomas Frank.

Thomas Frank is no alien to working with Paratici and Lange, having done so since arriving at the north London club in the summer. Now, Spurs CEO Vinai Venkatesham has shed light on what the Danish tactician thinks about the latest structural change at the club. He has now revealed that the 51-year-old has worked in a similar structure at Brentford before and is fully backing the duo sharing responsibilities as co-sporting directors.

When asked what the Tottenham boss thinks about the appointments, Venkatesham told the club’s official channel:

“I have talked about this with Thomas a lot and he is completely relaxed about it and very happy with where we are going.

“He has actually explained to me that this structure of working with two people is something that he is actually very familiar with. He tells me he had a very similar structure at Brentford.

“He has a very good relationship with both Johan and Fabio. I just had breakfast with him just now, and he is really looking forward to getting going. He has his press conference on Friday, so you will hear from him about it directly then.”

Frank should enjoy working with the Paratici-Lange duo

As Venkatesham mentioned, Frank worked with dual sporting directors at his former club Brentford and would enjoy a similar structure here at Tottenham. This would also give the Danish tactician confidence and a sense of stability that the Lilywhites are doing so much behind the scenes and making the structural changes to help the club become a successful force once again.

Paratici’s work at Tottenham has been great, as evidenced by the signings he made in the past. Players such as Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, Djed Spence, Pedro Porro, Destiny Udogie, Pape Sarr and others have been brought to N17 by the reputed Italian official, and interestingly, all of them have played key roles behind Tottenham’s strong start to the season under Frank. The Tottenham gaffer and the fans will hope the Paratici-Lange pair click and complement each other very well in enhancing the club’s recruitment strategy in the next few years.
