Thomas Frank provides injury update on Tottenham duo ahead of PSG Super Cup clash

Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank has moved quickly to reassure supporters after Dominic Solanke and Destiny Udogie missed Saturday’s pre-season action, just weeks ahead of the UEFA Super Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

The duo were expected to feature in Spurs’ back-to-back friendlies against Wycombe Wanderers and Luton Town, but both were withdrawn as a precaution. Solanke sat out the trip to Kenilworth Road due to a minor ankle knock, while Udogie was pulled from the line-up after feeling discomfort during the warm-up.

Speaking after the matches, as per The Independent, Frank downplayed any long-term concerns:

“Dom has a minor ankle issue, nothing we’re worried about — just precautionary,” he said. “Destiny felt something in the warm-up, again precautionary. We just want to be on top of everything, especially with a big game like PSG coming up.”

Pre-season management and squad rotation

Frank used the double-header to rotate his squad extensively, giving minutes across two completely different starting XIs. Heung-min Son featured in the 2-2 draw against Wycombe at Hotspur Way but was not involved at Luton later in the day. While Rodrigo Bentancur was initially listed to start, he had to withdraw due to illness.

Two well-taken goals from Pape Matar Sarr salvaged a draw in the earlier fixture after a slow start saw Spurs fall behind to the League One outfit.

The evening game at Luton proved more of a tactical test. Summer signing Mohammed Kudus nearly opened his Spurs account, only to be denied by a last-ditch clearance. Antonin Kinsky made a couple of key saves to keep the hosts at bay, ensuring it ended goalless in front of a healthy crowd of over 10,000.

Looking ahead to Asia and PSG

All eyes now turn to Tottenham’s pre-season tour of Asia, with the squad having flown to Hong Kong on Sunday. Solanke made the cut while Udogie stayed back at Hotspur Way, with Frank hopeful that managing their minutes now will ensure they’re fully fit for the UEFA Super Cup clash against PSG on August 13.

The match against the Ligue 1 champions represents a major early test for Frank’s tenure and a chance for Spurs to lift silverware before the domestic season begins.

As things stand, Spurs remain focused and composed, with fitness being carefully managed, depth being tested, and the new manager’s tactical blueprint slowly taking shape.
