However, it now seems that United will need to search elsewhere, as Thomas Tuchel is expected to extend his tenure with the Three Lions past this summer’s World Cup.

Tuchel’s current contract with England was set to end after the tournament in North America, but The Times reports that he has already agreed to terms on an extension.

The Football Association is likely to confirm the news before Thursday’s 2025/26 Nations League draw, which is scheduled for 5pm.

If confirmed, the new agreement would see Tuchel lead England into the 2028 European Championship, which will be co-hosted by Wales, Scotland, the Republic of Ireland, and England.

Since he took over in October 2024, Tuchel has had a nearly flawless start to his international coaching career.

England qualified for this summer’s World Cup by winning all eight qualifying matches without conceding a single goal.

That level of control and defensive strength has only improved Tuchel’s reputation within the FA and across Europe.

For Manchester United supporters, this news is especially disappointing given the club’s current managerial uncertainty.

Michael Carrick has stabilised the team since stepping in last month, achieving four wins and a draw from his first five matches in charge.

Despite this success, Carrick remains an interim appointment, with no promises regarding his position after the season ends.
