Three underperformers in Premier League Matchday 4

Premier League Matchday 4 concluded on Monday with Leeds United defeating Newcastle United, 4-1. 

One of the weekend's biggest matches was the Manchester Derby, which was marred by VAR controversy over a Phil Foden red card and Erling Haaland's winner. 

There were standout performances by several players, while others failed to impress during Matchday 4. Here are three of the biggest underperformers of the weekend. 

1. Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United 

Manchester United had a lackluster performance in the derby altogether, but Fernandes was a standout underperformer. 

The Portuguese international drew the red card for Foden, but not before kicking the Englishman while he was already on the ground. Many former players weighed in on Fernandes' conduct, with Roy Keane even saying for Sky Sports, "Bruno's the one who's violent here."

Fernandes came into the match with three goals on the season, but he failed to create any big chances for United against their rivals, signalling his lack of big-game performances. 

2. Dominic Solanke, Tottenham Hotspur 

Tottenham have yet to score a goal in the Premier League this season, and Solanke does not look up to league standards. 

He had just 19 touches on the ball, which was fewer than Tottenham's keeper Antonin Kinsky. 

Tottenham spent a fortune in the transfer window, especially on attacking players, including Manchester City's Omar Marmoush and Savio. Solanke is the only out-and-out number nine in the squad, but he has failed to perform time and time again. 

Spurs need to jump-start their attack, and giving Solanke more opportunities is one of the first steps to scoring their first goal of the season. 

3. Alexander Isak, Liverpool

Liverpool have managed just one win under Andoni Iraola in the Premier League, and they had another goalless draw against Fulham at the weekend. 

Isak had three shots, but Liverpool struggled to find the striker up top for more chances. 

Isak had two goals against Ipswich Town, but the Swedish striker has still failed to live up to his big-money move from Newcastle. 

Liverpool lacked tenacity against Fulham as a team, which could be the result of the congested fixture schedule, with games from the Premier League, Champions League and the upcoming Carabao Cup.
