Tim Sherwood comes to Daniel Levy’s defense over Antonio Conte claim that squad is weaker

Last month, Tottenham Hotspur parted ways with four players (Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, Bryan Gil, and Dele Alli), leading manager Antonio Conte to state that his squad got weaker during an interview with Sky Sports Italia. 

Tottenham did add Juventus duo Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur but didn’t replace all four spots on the squad that the departing players occupied. Nonetheless, former Spurs midfielder Tim Sherwood came to the defense of chairman Daniel Levy. 

In an interview with Premier League Productions (via Spurs Web), Sherwood has claimed that Levy never pushes any player out of the door at Tottenham against his manager’s wishes. 

“Last week, he (Conte) said he did an interview in Italy (with Sky Italia) and he got misquoted,” Sherwood said. “He said ‘the players that have left the club, they are weaker. They signed two and they lost four.”

“But he wasn’t playing those players. What I know of Daniel Levy is he never ever forces any manager at that football club to sell players. If they want to keep them, he is happy to keep them. Now, perhaps he never got to bring in the players he wanted to bring in during the window.”

Conte also put a cloud over his future following the loss to Burnley. Nonetheless, the 52-year-old walked back and stated that he’s committed to the Tottenham project despite the challenges.

The Italian manager is under contract until 2023, so it seems as though he will remain and fix the issues with Spurs to have them challenge for trophies.
