Tim Sherwood, speaking on Sky Sports, pointed out an “interesting” detail in Manchester United’s tactics involving Benjamin Sesko during their match against Sunderland.
Sesko has now scored in consecutive Premier League games for United following his high-profile summer move from RB Leipzig.
The Slovenian forward first found the net in the 3-1 loss to Brentford before making another mark against Sunderland.
After Mason Mount put United ahead, Sesko added a second goal before half-time at Old Trafford.
The second came after a long throw-in from Diogo Dalot was flicked on by Nordi Mukiele, with Sesko finishing confidently to extend United’s lead.
Sky Sports pundit Tim Sherwood noted an interesting aspect of Man United’s game plan involving Sesko during the match against Sunderland.
The Slovenia international had an impressive display, linking well with Mount and Bryan Mbeumo while providing a consistent threat up front.
Sherwood highlighted how United were more direct in getting the ball to Sesko, describing it as “pleasing”.
“It’s interesting how Man Utd are going about this.
“They’re playing direct[ly] into Sesko. I’ve never seen him have so many touches so early in a game. It’s pleasing to see.
“They’re not asking Lammens to play out in silly areas, and it’s paying off.”
Man United took a 2-0 lead into the break, and they held that advantage through the second half to claim all three points.
Ruben Amorim’s side managed to keep things tight at the back, holding Sunderland scoreless and seeing out a comfortable win at Old Trafford.
Sherwood was particularly impressed by how involved Sesko was in the first half, noting just how often the striker got on the ball compared to previous outings.
“It’s a wonderfully timed run from Sesko. Well done, son.
“He’s had more touches in the first half here than in all the other games.
“They’re making him feel like he’s part of it.”
Man United have risen to ninth in the Premier League standings. Their next league fixture will be on 19th October, an away match against Liverpool at Anfield.
