Tottenham Hotspur continues its efforts to add Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi to its squad to strengthen its defensive line. Spurs, who made a serious offer for the €50 million-rated Guehi during the winter transfer period, encountered resistance from Crystal Palace.
It’s become evident that we will have to compete with giant clubs such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle United for a much-respected player.
The Boy Hotspur understands that Guehi’s contract will expire in 2026, which could force Palace to sell. Marc Guehi’s name attracts attention not only from Premier League teams but also from Europe. Bayern Munich and Juventus see the English defender as an option.
Although it is quite low compared to Crystal Palace‘s previous demands, the narrowing of Guehi’s contract period may cause the price to drop.
Marc Guehi has not yet responded negatively to Crystal Palace’s request for a contract extension, time is running out for all concerned.
Our view
In simple terms, beyond the yet-to-be-delivered threat of winning the Europa League, Spurs are hardly in a position where top talent will be itching to sign up.
For all the club’s much-lauded infrastructure, Ange Postecoglou has us sunk into 16th, and based upon recurring press conferences, is hell-bent upon blaming anyone but himself.
This is another player that a balanced, well-intentioned club could do well to get involved with, but right now, do we look like a step up from Palace? It’s difficult to keep a straight face and say yes.
