Fikayo Tomori went off just 14 minutes into Milan’s Serie A match with Bologna after a freak accident and could now be at risk for Wednesday’s Coppa Italia Final.

The defender made an important interception on a cross-field pass for Benjamin Dominguez and nodded it back to Mike Maignan, but as he continued the run, he stumbled and fell head-first into the Bologna player’s back.

The way he fell saw him off balance and without the ability to put up his hands to take some of the impact, so it might be a form of minor whiplash.

Strange injury suffered by Tomori

Tomori immediately requested treatment, then played on for a few minutes before going down again.

Sky Sport Italia report the England international told Milan medical staff that he felt dizzy and was struggling to see properly, while he was also gesturing to his neck to explain the effects of the impact.

The centre-back was replaced by Malick Thiaw and went straight into the dressing room at San Siro to undergo further tests.

It remains to be seen if Tomori will be ready to play in the Coppa Italia Final at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday May 14, which will also be between Milan and Bologna.
