Football Italia brings you the top five transfer stories of the day, including Napoli all but confirming Kevin De Bruyne’s arrival, and their planned round of talks with Manchester United for Alejandro Garnacho.
Here are the biggest transfer stories involving Serie A clubs from Monday, May 26.
Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis almost confirmed the arrival of Kevin De Bruyne during the team’s open-top bus parade on Monday. De Bruyne is out of contract, has said farewell to Manchester City and is on the verge of signing a three-year contract with the Partenopei. De Laurentiis claims that De Bruyne has already bought a house in Italy, and that he spoke with the player and his family on Monday morning. ADL was reluctant to officially confirm his arrival though, ‘until we have something in black and white’.
Preparing for a return to the Champions League in 2025-26, Napoli are looking to add numbers and quality to their squad over the summer transfer window. Monday’s reports claim that director Giovanni Manna will meet with representatives from Manchester United in the near future to discuss a deal for Garnacho . Napoli had targeted a move for the Argentina international in the winter transfer window after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s move to PSG, and they are expected to attempt a deal again with an asking price in the region of €50m.
As a result of their qualification to the Conference League, Fiorentina have now triggered their mandatory buy option in their loan deal with Juventus for Nicolo Fagioli. La Viola already paid a fee of €2.5m to sign Fagioli on loan for the second half of the 2024-25 season, and will now pay an additional €13.5m plus up to €3m in bonuses, taking the total cost of the operation up to a minimum of €16m and a maximum of €19m.
Similarly to Fagioli and Fiorentina, Premier League side Brentford have now activated their option to buy for Italy U21 international Michael Kayode. According to reports from Fabrizio Romano , the Bees will pay a fee of €17.5m to sign the 20-year-old on a permanent basis from Fiorentina in a case of one in, one out for the Viola. He joins a list of Italians in the Premier League that includes Riccardo Calafiori, Sandro Tonali, Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, Emerson Palmieri and for now, Jorginho and Federico Chiesa.
Milan officially announced the appointment of former Lazio executive Igli Tare as the club’s new sporting director on Monday. The Albanian will oversee the first-team sporting operations, and will have a major role to play in the club’s recruitment plans moving forwards. Monday’s reports confirm that he has already begun work in his new role, and that he has held discussions with Roma over the futures of Tammy Abraham, Alexis Saelemaekers and Francesco Camarda.
