As Jurgen Klopp and his men begin pre season preparations in their Austria training camp, the question remains as to what other additions will Liverpool make this summer.

The Reds are joined by their new centre-back Ibrahima Konate as well as returning loanees such as Harvey Elliott.

There have been multiple reports that state Liverpool will not dip into the transfer market until they sell several squad members.

Names such as Xherdan Shaqiri, Neco Williams and Harry Wilson are among the players that could depart Anfield this summer.

It appears the club are eager to replace Georginio Wijnaldum who departed the Merseyside in May.

Lets take a look at midfield men Liverpool need to target this summer, all of which have been recently linked to the Reds.

NICOLO BARELLA

Recent reports in Italy (via Paisley Gates) claim Liverpool have made an offer of €70Million for the Inter Milan starlet.

Barella played an integral part in Italy's Euro 2020 success including scoring in the quarter-finals against Belgium.

Despite needing a hefty return of funds due to the pandemic, Inter are adamant they will not sell the 24 year-old.

Fresh off the heels of winning a league and international title, the Italian midfielder has more than enough pedigree to lead Liverpool's midfield now and into the future.

RENATO SANCHES

Another man who impressed during the European Championships is Portugal midfielder Renato Sanches.

The 23 year-old shined in the centre of the park for Portugal despite their surprising early exit from the tournament.

Despite being so young, Sanches is quite well known in footballing circles from his time spent at clubs like Swansea and Bayern Munich.

A slew of injuries have been a key factor in Sanches' failure to nail down a place in England and Germany, but the Portuguese international seems to have settled well into his latest side Lille.

A club which he had league title success with last season.

Sanches also has a much lower price tag than other midfielders linked with Liverpool, at a reported €30Million.

SAUL NIGUEZ

A man who seemed to closer to Anfield than any other player on this list is Spanish international Saul Niguez.

The Atletico Madrid veteran has been at the club since the age of 18, making over 300 appearances for Diego Simeone's side.

Reliable sources in Spain have claimed Liverpool were actively pursuing Niguez and had an over of over €40Million rejected.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed on twitter that Barcelona have made a swap deal with Atletico for Saul, with Antoine Griezmann returning to his former side.

With a mountain of league and Champions League experience under his belt as well as possessing some impressive attributes creatively as well as defensively, the 26 year-old is the most ideal replacement for Wijnaldum.

YOURI TIELEMANS

Speaking of ideal replacements, Leicester City's midfield maestro could add that goal scoring factor that has been lacking for Liverpool in recent seasons.

Another man who is fresh from silverware success, Tielemans scored the winner in the Fa Cup final against Chelsea.

The Belgium international has reportedly expressed his interest in joining Liverpool (via Voetbal 24).

Similar to Nicolo Barella, Tielemans price tag of £64Million is a massive stumbling block for Liverpool.

A deal for the 24 year-old would be a huge addition for Jurgen Klopp's squad but giving into Leicester's demands would be foolish in the current climate.

RYAN GRAVENBERCH

If Liverpool want to build for the future to add men to join players such as Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott within Liverpool's talented young ranks, they should look no further than Ryan Gravenberch.

The 19 year-old Dutch starlet has been making waves across Europe due to his rise among the ranks at Ajax.

Gravenberch is a regular starter for the Eredivisie champions and has won multiple individual honours within the last year.

He has made 61 appearances, scoring nine goals. Although unlikely to nab the young midfielder this season, Gravenberch must be watched closely by Liverpool in the coming months.
