Toronto FC to play next home game in Connecticut

Much like Major League Baseball's Toronto Blue Jays, Major League Soccer's Toronto FC isn't playing their home games in Canada this season due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Toronto FC announced Friday that their upcoming home game against Columbus Crew SC on Sunday will be played at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut.

MLS currently is in the process of finalizing travel protocols for the remainder of the regular season, and Toronto is expected to play more games in East Hartford.

“While we continue to work with government officials on our travel protocols, it is important to the club to have our own home away from home during this next phase,” said Toronto FC President Bill Manning. “The state of Connecticut opened their arms for us and my compliments to David Lehman and Governor Lamont for their leadership here. Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field is a great venue. They’ve hosted a number of international games and we’re excited to play there.”

Rentschler Field serves as home for the University of Connecticut's football team and has hosted many international soccer matches, including games for the U.S. men's and women's national teams. Last year, it served as a temporary home for the Hartford Athletic of the USL.
