Tottenham will appoint a permanent head coach at the end of the season.

Igor Tudor has stepped up to become the Tottenham Hotspur interim manager until the end of the season. He has replaced Thomas Frank at the helm and will take charge of his first Spurs game against Arsenal in a huge North London derby on Sunday.

It is crucial for the no-nonsense Croat to hit the ground running at White Hart Lane. Igor Tudor’s focus will also be on winning over the disheartened fans and taking control of the dressing room ahead of the North London derby, as the Lilywhites look to revive their league campaign. The 47-year-old’s role at Spurs is clear- to get the team out of trouble at the bottom of the Premier League table, avoid the drop and see how far he can get them in the UEFA Champions League.

As Tudor is here in North London until the end of the campaign, a permanent head coach will be appointed by the club in the summer. Spurs will evaluate the market for a permanent Frank successor in the summer, with Mauricio Pochettino the leading candidate to take the job. However, discussions will also be held over other potential options.

Tottenham add Eddie Howe to managerial shortlist

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham have added Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe to their shortlist of potential candidates for the permanent job. The Englishman’s name has been ‘raised and discussed’ by the key decision-makers in N17, as Spurs begin plotting their summer transfer strategy to replace Frank.

One of the highly-rated coaches in England, Eddie Howe, has enhanced his stock during his four-and-a-half years with Newcastle United. He is among the longest-serving current managers in the EPL, having been at NUFC since November 2021. Only Mikel Arteta, Pep Guardiola and Marco Silva have been reigning longer at a club.

When he arrived at St James’ Park, the Magpies were battling against relegation; within two campaigns, Howe inspired them to Champions League qualification and ended Newcastle’s 70-year wait for silverware by delivering the Carabao Cup last term.

However, Howe has come under a bit of pressure for the first time in his Newcastle tenure this season, with the team struggling in 10th place in the Premier League table. There is no looming threat of the 48-year-old losing his job in Tyneside.

Tottenham adding the English tactician to their managerial shortlist shows the reputation he has built with his good work at Newcastle. He is viewed as a coach who fits Spurs’ long-term philosophy and vision- player development, nurturing of youth, attacking and expansive football and volumes of experience managing in the Premier League.

But, as Howe remains committed to the project at St James’ Park and retain stanch support from the Newcastle hierarchy, the Lilywhites will find it difficult to tempt him to N17 in the summer.
