Tottenham Hotspur will try their best to keep hold of Dejan Kulusevski this summer amid interest from Napoli

Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League prospects under Ange Postecoglou in the current campaign look abysmal as they sit 15th in the table.

The Europa League seems to be the Australian boss’ only hope of keeping his job at White Hart Lane, with a trip to Germany to face Eintracht Frankfurt in the second leg of the quarter-finals pivotal. Recent reports suggest Ange Postecoglou’s future could be sealed as early as this week if Spurs fail to beat Eintracht Frankfurt and advance to the Europa League semi-finals.

In addition to Ange’s future, failure to participate in Europe next season may also lead to concerns over the futures of several first-team stars. Dejan Kulusevski could reportedly exit the club if the season’s objective of winning the European Cup is not met. He could return to Serie A, where he has been heavily linked with a move to Napoli.

Napoli boss Antonio Conte wants to sign Dejan Kulusevski, who has been Tottenham’s standout performer this season. The 24-year-old, who has netted 10 goals and supplied as many assists in 43 appearances, returned from a foot injury during Sunday’s 4-2 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Considering the Sweden international has been the Lilywhites’ best player this term in an otherwise dismal campaign, the club bosses would do everything within their powers to keep hold of him. And reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham believes the North Londoners will need to sit down with Kulusevski and discuss a new contract before the season ends.

“He’s still got a decent contract,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.

“His current deal expires in 2028. Therefore, there isn’t a lot of pressure right now. However, Tottenham will need him to renew at some point over the next 12 months.

“They won’t want him entering the final two years of his contract, as that would put the pressure on. As a result, I’d imagine talks will take place next season, and hopefully, we make some dramatic improvements and Kulusevski sees a future at Tottenham and renews.”

Kulusevski’s contract at White Hart Lane does not expire until the summer of 2028, so there is no immediate worry for Tottenham. Earlier this week, Wenham felt the club could demand upwards of £70m for the Scandinavian attacking midfielder if Napoli pushes to sign him when the transfer window reopens in June.

Daniel Levy and his team certainly could try to discuss fresh terms with Kulusevski. At this moment, however, the club are not in a good situation to open contract talks with the Swede. Therefore, if we are to keep hold of him, Tottenham must make tangible progress next season and show that they are ready to challenge for titles in the coming years.
