Tottenham Hotspur have begun weighing up a big January swoop for Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo.
With Thomas Frank determined to strengthen his attacking options, Antoine Semenyo has emerged as a serious candidate for the Lilywhites. Spurs were interested in signing the Ghana international in the summer, but Bournemouth were reluctant to sell him after losing several key players. Eventually, they managed to hang on to the 25-year-old and tie him down to a lucrative new contract until 2030.
It has recently emerged that Semenyo has a £65 million release clause in the contract that he penned just a few months ago at the Vitality Stadium. Clubs willing to sign the winger will get the opening two weeks of the January transfer window to trigger his release clause.
Semenyo has transformed into one of the coveted Premier League commodities since Andoni Iraola’s appointment in the summer of 2023. Following an electrifying start to the current campaign, in which he has provided six goals and three assists from 11 Premier League appearances, the Ghanaian ace has also emerged as a target for Liverpool.
Liverpool are likely to provide Spurs with a stiff challenge for the signing of the Bournemouth attacker in the winter transfer window. Now, reliable journalist Alasdair Gold has given his thoughts on Semenyo’s future. While the player isn’t desperate to leave the Cherries, he says Spurs have big interest in him and the attacker would fit Thomas Frank’s system well.
“Spurs obviously big interest in him [Semenyo]. He is absolutely class and would fit this system as well,” Alasdair Gold said on his YouTube channel.
“Um 65 million I guess, you know, it’d be a big test of the Lewis family’s backing of the club. There’s a release clause there to be had.
“You know, could Spurs go for him? Um you know, he has in most recent interview didn’t seem desperate to get away from Bournemouth, but you know, it would be a proper test for all involved. That would be right.”
There is going to be a big scramble for Semenyo when the transfer window reopens on January 1. The African talent could prove to be an excellent addition for Tottenham. He will add creativity, flair, physicality and goals to the side, whilst perhaps replacing Son Heung-min on the left flank. The Cherries man is capable of operating on the right flank and centrally as a No.9, which should bode well for a tactician like Frank as he enjoys working with versatile players.
Semenyo has shown his quality at Bournemouth and should be able to replicate his form for a big club like Tottenham. Without any doubt, the ex-Bristol City man would take the Lilywhites’ attack to another level. That said, it will be interesting to see if Tottenham make a statement in January by signing Semenyo.
